a pre-rolled cone is a paper that's already rolled and shaped, with a filter tip in the narrow end. you fill it and twist it shut. the cone itself can be made of a few different things, and that's where hemp and blunt cones come in.
- a hemp cone is a pre-rolled cone made from hemp paper instead of wood pulp or rice.
- a blunt cone is a thicker wrap, rolled into a cone. usually hemp or plant fibre, sometimes flavoured.
- they all fill the same way. grind fine, fill in stages, press lightly, twist.
the three kinds of cone
paper cones
wood pulp or rice paper. light, quick to burn, taste of very little.
hemp cones
hemp paper, a little more texture, a slower burn. often flavoured.
blunt cones
a heavier wrap rolled into a cone. closer to a classic blunt, with no tobacco in it.
how to fill a cone
- grind it fine and even. big pieces leave air gaps, and gaps make it run.
- fill a little at a time. add some, tap the filter end on the table so it settles, add more.
- press lightly with a poker. most packs include a packing stick. a wooden poker does the same job. firm, not solid.
- stop a few millimetres from the top, then twist the paper closed.
G-Rollz blunt cones come two to a sealed glass tube. slide one out, fill it the same way, and use the poker end rather than your finger so the wrap doesn't split.
which size
cones are sold by length: 84mm (1¼), 98mm and 109mm (king size). the longer the cone, the more it holds. there's a full breakdown in pre-rolled cone sizes.
the short of it
paper for light, hemp for slower, blunt cones for something closer to a classic blunt. fill them all the same way: fine grind, small stages, light pressure.
