a Clipper is the round-bodied lighter with the removable flint holder on top. it's made to be refilled and re-flinted rather than thrown away, and that flint holder doubles as a poker. here's how all three work.
- refillable with standard butane gas.
- the flint is replaceable. a new one takes a minute.
- the flint holder pulls out and packs a roll.
refilling it
- turn the lighter upside down. the refill valve is on the base.
- press the butane can straight down onto the valve in short bursts of a few seconds.
- wait a couple of minutes for the gas to settle before you light it.
changing the flint
- pull the flint holder straight up and out of the lighter.
- remove the base of the holder and drop in a new Clipper flint.
- put it back together and slot it back in.
using the poker
the same flint holder, pulled out, is the right size to pack down a roll or a cone. that's half the reason people keep them. put it back when you're done.
the RAW Clipper is a standard Clipper with RAW branding. it refills, re-flints and pokes exactly the same. see it here.
the brand
Clipper lighters are made by Flamagas, founded in 1959, with the first Clipper made in 1972. they're produced mainly in Barcelona.
the short of it
upside down to refill, pull the top to re-flint, and use the flint holder to pack. one Clipper can last years.
